Description

A hearty, flavor-packed burrito filled with seasoned ground beef, melted cheese, and fresh toppings all wrapped in a soft tortilla. Perfect for lunch or dinner, this dish is quick, satisfying, and full of bold flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Beef Filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for sautéing)
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth for a lighter version)
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce (optional, for a saucier filling)

For the Burrito Assembly:

  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a cheese blend of your choice)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (optional)
  • 1/4 cup salsa (optional)
  • 1/4 cup guacamole (optional)
  • 1 cup cooked rice (optional, for added texture and flavor)
  • 1/2 cup shredded lettuce (optional, for added crunch)
  • 1/4 cup diced tomatoes (optional, for a fresh, juicy touch)
  • 1/4 cup sliced jalapeños (optional, for a spicy kick)

Instructions

1. Cook the Beef Filling

Start by heating 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes, or until it becomes soft and translucent. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for another 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.

Next, add the ground beef to the skillet. Use a spoon or spatula to break the meat into smaller pieces as it cooks. Cook the beef for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it is browned and cooked through. If there’s excess grease in the pan, drain it off.

Once the beef is cooked, stir in the chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. These spices will infuse the beef with bold flavor. Add the beef broth to the pan and stir to combine. If you prefer a saucier filling, you can also stir in the tomato sauce at this point. Allow the mixture to simmer for 3-5 minutes, so the flavors meld and the liquid reduces slightly.

2. Prepare the Tortillas

While the beef mixture is simmering, warm the flour tortillas. You can do this in a dry skillet over medium heat for 20-30 seconds on each side, or you can wrap them in a damp paper towel and microwave them for 15-20 seconds until soft and pliable. Warm tortillas make it easier to roll the burritos and ensure they don’t crack when you fold them.

3. Assemble the Burritos

Now it’s time to assemble the burritos. Lay a warm tortilla flat on a clean surface. Spoon a generous amount of the seasoned beef mixture in the center of the tortilla, leaving space on all sides for folding.

Top the beef with shredded cheddar cheese (or your preferred cheese) while the beef is still hot. The cheese will melt slightly and blend into the filling for that perfect gooey texture. If you like, you can also add a spoonful of sour cream, salsa, guacamole, or any other toppings you prefer.

4. Fold and Roll the Burrito

To fold the burrito, start by folding in the sides of the tortilla toward the center. Then, carefully fold the bottom edge of the tortilla up over the filling. Roll the burrito tightly from the bottom, making sure to tuck in the edges as you go to keep the filling secure. Once the burrito is rolled, you can either serve it immediately or toast it in a skillet for a crispy exterior.

5. Optional: Toast the Burritos

If you prefer a crispy burrito, heat a little oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place the rolled burrito seam-side down and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the tortilla is golden brown and crispy. This step adds a nice texture to the burrito and helps seal the edges so the filling doesn’t spill out.

6. Serve the Burritos

Once your burritos are ready, serve them with additional toppings like shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, or sliced jalapeños. You can also serve them with a side of chips, salsa, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
