Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar (or orange juice)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
- 2 tablespoons water (if using cornstarch)
Instructions
- Prepare the Glaze: In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, cloves (if using), and black pepper.
- Heat the Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir the mixture continuously until the sugar is dissolved and the glaze is smooth, about 5 minutes.
- Thicken the Glaze (Optional): If you prefer a thicker glaze, mix the cornstarch with water in a small bowl to create a slurry. Slowly add it to the saucepan while stirring, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the glaze thickens.
- Glaze the Ham: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Brush a generous amount of the glaze over your pre-cooked ham, ensuring it’s evenly coated. Reserve some glaze for basting later.
- Roast the Ham: Place the ham in a preheated oven at 325°F (165°C). Roast according to the package instructions (typically about 15-18 minutes per pound), basting with the reserved glaze every 20-30 minutes.
- Caramelize the Glaze: For the last 30 minutes of roasting, increase the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) to allow the glaze to caramelize and create a beautiful crust.
- Rest and Serve: Once done, remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute for a moist result.
- Drizzle with Remaining Glaze: Serve the sliced ham drizzled with any remaining glaze for added flavor.
