Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped shrimp (optional, or use additional pork)
  • 1 cup finely chopped cabbage
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped carrot
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 package (about 50) wonton wrappers
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Filling:
    • In a large skillet or wok, heat a small amount of oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground pork and shrimp (if using). Cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking up the meat as it cooks.
    • Add the chopped cabbage, carrot, and green onions. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until vegetables are tender.
    • Stir in the garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), ginger, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let the filling cool slightly.
  • Assemble the Wontons:
    • Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the filling into the center of the wrapper.
    • Moisten the edges of the wrapper with a little water. Fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle or fold the corners to the center to form a pouch, pressing the edges to seal tightly. Ensure there are no air bubbles inside.
  • Heat the Oil:
    • In a large, deep skillet or wok, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping in a small piece of wonton wrapper; it should sizzle and float.
  • Fry the Wontons:
    • Working in batches, carefully add the wontons to the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally for even cooking.
    • Remove the wontons with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  • Serve:
    • Serve the crispy fried wontons warm with your favorite dipping sauce, such as sweet and sour sauce, soy sauce, or chili sauce.
