Ingredients
For the Easter Bunny Crescent Bites:
-
1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
-
4 oz cream cheese, softened
-
1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
-
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
-
Fresh parsley or chives (optional, for garnish)
-
1/4 cup sliced olives (for the bunny’s eyes)
-
1/4 cup carrot sticks (for the bunny’s nose and whiskers, optional)
-
1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Open the can of refrigerated crescent roll dough and unroll it onto a clean surface. You should have 8 triangles of dough. If using crescent roll sheets, simply cut the dough into triangles.
Lay the dough triangles flat on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving some space between each one. You will be shaping each triangle into a bunny, so make sure there’s enough room for the dough to expand while baking.
In a small mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until the filling is smooth and fully combined. You can adjust the seasoning to your taste, adding a bit more salt or garlic powder if you prefer a bolder flavor.
If you want to add more ingredients to the filling, such as cooked bacon, spinach, or herbs, feel free to customize the flavor to suit your preferences.
To form the bunny shape, take one of the dough triangles and cut the wider end into two smaller pieces to create the bunny ears. The smaller triangle piece will be the bunny’s body, and the two pieces you cut off will be the ears.
Spoon a small amount of the cream cheese filling onto the center of the triangle (the bunny’s body). Fold the dough in half to form a small crescent shape, leaving the ears sticking up. The dough should look like a little bunny with two ears at the top.
You can slightly curve the edges of the dough to enhance the bunny shape if desired.
Now it’s time to make your bunny come to life! Use small pieces of sliced olives to create the bunny’s eyes. Simply press the olives into the dough where the eyes would be. For the bunny’s nose, you can use a small piece of a carrot stick to make a tiny, triangular shape in the middle of the body.
If you want to get even more creative, you can use small strips of carrot for the bunny’s whiskers, gently pressing them into the dough before baking.
To give the Easter Bunny Crescent Bites a beautiful golden brown color when baked, apply an egg wash. Crack the egg into a small bowl and beat it lightly. Using a pastry brush, brush the egg wash over the surface of each crescent bite. This will help them develop a rich, golden color and a glossy finish.
Once all the crescent bites are shaped, filled, and brushed with egg wash, place the baking sheet into the preheated oven. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crescent dough is golden brown and crispy. The filling should be warm and slightly melted inside the dough.
Keep an eye on them to avoid overbaking, as the dough can turn too dark if left in the oven for too long.
After baking, remove the crescent bites from the oven and allow them to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet. You can transfer them to a wire rack if you prefer to cool them more quickly. These bite-sized Easter Bunny Crescent Bites are best enjoyed warm, but they can also be served at room temperature.
If you’d like, you can garnish the bunnies with a sprinkle of fresh parsley or chives for a pop of color. They’re now ready to be served at your Easter celebration!
