- 4 medium apples (Granny Smith or your favorite variety)
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Toppings (chopped nuts, sprinkles, or crushed cookies)
Instructions
I. Prepare the Apples:
- Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Remove any wax coating if needed.
- Insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple, making sure it’s secure.
II. Make the Candy Coating:
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Allow the mixture to boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
- Remove from heat and stir in cinnamon, vanilla, and food coloring if desired.
III. Coat the Apples:
- Dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, swirling to coat evenly.
- Allow excess candy to drip off and place the coated apples on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
IV. Add Toppings:
- While the candy coating is still warm, sprinkle your desired toppings over the apples.
V. Cool and Serve:
- Let the apples cool completely until the candy hardens. Slice and enjoy!
