Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium apples (Granny Smith or your favorite variety)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Toppings (chopped nuts, sprinkles, or crushed cookies)

Instructions

I. Prepare the Apples:

  1. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Remove any wax coating if needed.
  2. Insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple, making sure it’s secure.

II. Make the Candy Coating:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Allow the mixture to boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in cinnamon, vanilla, and food coloring if desired.

III. Coat the Apples:

  1. Dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, swirling to coat evenly.
  2. Allow excess candy to drip off and place the coated apples on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

IV. Add Toppings:

  1. While the candy coating is still warm, sprinkle your desired toppings over the apples.

V. Cool and Serve:

  1. Let the apples cool completely until the candy hardens. Slice and enjoy!
