Description
A light and refreshing mix of whipped cream, fruit, and marshmallows, this Fruit Fluff Salad is the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess. Ideal for Easter gatherings, it’s a colorful and crowd-pleasing side dish or dessert.
Ingredients
For the Fruit Fluff Salad:
- 1 can (20 oz) crushed pineapple, drained
- 1 can (11 oz) mandarin oranges, drained
- 1 cup mini marshmallows
- 1 cup whipped cream (or 1 ½ cups heavy whipping cream, whipped)
- 1 cup sour cream (or Greek yogurt for a lighter option)
- ½ cup shredded coconut (optional)
- ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
- 1 cup grapes, halved (optional)
- 1 cup fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) (optional)
Instructions
If you’re using heavy whipping cream, start by whipping it to stiff peaks. Pour the cream into a large mixing bowl and beat with an electric mixer on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form. This should take about 3-5 minutes. If you prefer to use pre-made whipped cream, you can skip this step and go straight to mixing the other ingredients.
In a separate mixing bowl, add the sour cream (or Greek yogurt if you prefer a lighter version). Whisk until smooth and creamy. This will serve as the base for the salad’s creamy texture, blending perfectly with the whipped cream.
In another bowl, combine the drained crushed pineapple, mandarin oranges, and any additional fruits such as grapes or berries. Gently stir the fruit together to evenly distribute the different varieties.
Add the mini marshmallows and shredded coconut (if using) to the fruit mixture. The marshmallows will add sweetness and a chewy texture, while the coconut gives the salad a tropical flair.
Carefully fold the whipped cream into the fruit and marshmallow mixture. Use a spatula to gently combine everything. The goal is to keep the whipped cream light and airy, so be gentle to avoid deflating the whipped cream.
If you’re using nuts like chopped pecans or walnuts, fold them into the salad at this stage. The nuts add a crunchy texture that complements the creaminess of the salad.
Cover the salad with plastic wrap or a lid and place it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving. Chilling the Fruit Fluff Salad allows the flavors to meld together and enhances the fluffy texture.
Once chilled, the Fruit Fluff Salad is ready to serve. Scoop the salad into individual bowls or serve it family-style in a large bowl. Garnish with extra berries, coconut, or nuts if desired for an added touch.
