For the Cookies:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Spider Decorations:
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Pretzel sticks (broken into halves or quarters)
- Candy eyes (available at craft stores or online)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for melting the chocolate)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Cookie Dough:
- In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter, creamy peanut butter, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, beating until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Form the Cookies:
- Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Flatten each dough ball slightly with the back of a fork, making a crisscross pattern.
- Bake the Cookies:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare the Spider Decorations:
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips and vegetable oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
- Dip the bottom of each cookie into the melted chocolate to create a “base” for the spider (optional, but adds a nice touch).
- Place the cookies on a wire rack or parchment paper.
- For each spider, place 8 pretzel stick halves around the cookie to form the spider legs.
- Use a small amount of melted chocolate to attach two candy eyes to the center of the cookie.
