Ingredients

Scale

For the Cookies:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Spider Decorations:

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Pretzel sticks (broken into halves or quarters)
  • Candy eyes (available at craft stores or online)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for melting the chocolate)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Cookie Dough:
    • In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter, creamy peanut butter, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Add the egg and vanilla extract, beating until well combined.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Form the Cookies:
    • Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
    • Flatten each dough ball slightly with the back of a fork, making a crisscross pattern.
  • Bake the Cookies:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
    • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Prepare the Spider Decorations:
    • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips and vegetable oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
    • Dip the bottom of each cookie into the melted chocolate to create a “base” for the spider (optional, but adds a nice touch).
    • Place the cookies on a wire rack or parchment paper.
    • For each spider, place 8 pretzel stick halves around the cookie to form the spider legs.
    • Use a small amount of melted chocolate to attach two candy eyes to the center of the cookie.
  • Serve and Enjoy:
    • Let the chocolate set before serving. Enjoy your festive and spooky cookies!
