Description
Sliced turkey, creamy avocado, and crisp veggies layered between two slices of bread, all drizzled with sweet honey mustard. A deliciously balanced sandwich that’s both satisfying and refreshing.
Ingredients
For the Honey Mustard Turkey Avocado Sandwich:
- 2 slices whole-grain bread (or your preferred bread)
- 4–6 oz sliced turkey breast (preferably lean and nitrate-free)
- ½ avocado, sliced
- 1 tablespoon honey mustard dressing (or to taste)
- 2 leaves of Romaine lettuce (or your favorite leafy greens)
- 2–3 slices tomato (optional, for added freshness)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for toasting bread)
- 1 slice of cheese (optional, such as Swiss or cheddar)
Instructions
Start by gathering all your ingredients. Slice the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh with a spoon. Slice it into thin pieces. If you’re using tomato, slice it into 2-3 even slices. Wash and pat dry your Romaine lettuce leaves. If you’re using cheese, slice it to fit the bread.
While the ingredients are being prepared, you can toast the bread if you prefer a crispy sandwich. Heat a pan over medium heat and add a small amount of olive oil, or use a grill pan. Place the slices of bread in the pan and toast them on both sides until golden brown. Alternatively, you can use a toaster to lightly toast the bread for an extra crispy texture.
Spread a thin layer of honey mustard dressing on one or both slices of bread. Be sure to use enough to coat the bread, but not so much that it overpowers the other flavors. Add the sliced turkey breast on one slice of the bread, layering it evenly.
Next, arrange the avocado slices on top of the turkey. The creamy avocado will provide a smooth contrast to the savory turkey and tangy honey mustard.
Add the Romaine lettuce leaves on top of the avocado, followed by the slices of tomato, if you’re using them. The lettuce will add crunch, and the tomato will bring freshness and juiciness to the sandwich.
If you’re using cheese, place a slice of your preferred cheese on top of the tomato or under the top slice of bread. You can choose to melt the cheese by placing the sandwich back in the pan or grill it on low heat for a minute or two, if you prefer a warm, melted cheese effect.
Sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper over the layers of your sandwich to taste. Then, top the sandwich with the second slice of bread, honey mustard side down. Press the sandwich gently to help everything stay in place.
Once the sandwich is assembled, cut it in half or into quarters for easier handling. Serve immediately while the bread is still warm and the avocado is fresh. If you’ve chosen to toast the bread, you’ll enjoy a crispy exterior with a creamy, savory interior.
