For the Glaze:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons dark rum
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
I. Prepare the Cruller Dough
- In a medium saucepan, combine milk, sugar, butter, and salt. Heat over medium heat until the mixture is warm but not boiling.
- Remove from heat and stir in the flour and baking powder until a dough forms.
- Allow the dough to cool slightly, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until smooth.
II. Heat the Oil
- In a deep skillet or heavy pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C) for frying.
III. Fry the Crullers
- Using a piping bag fitted with a large star tip, pipe the dough into 4-inch circles directly into the hot oil.
- Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
IV. Make the Glaze
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, powdered sugar, dark rum, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
V. Glaze the Crullers
- Dip the warm crullers into the glaze, ensuring they’re well coated. Allow any excess glaze to drip off.
VI. Serve
- Enjoy the crullers warm or at room temperature. Perfect with a cup of coffee or tea!
