Ingredients

Scale

For the Crullers:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

For the Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dark rum
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

I. Prepare the Cruller Dough

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine milk, sugar, butter, and salt. Heat over medium heat until the mixture is warm but not boiling.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the flour and baking powder until a dough forms.
  3. Allow the dough to cool slightly, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until smooth.

II. Heat the Oil

  1. In a deep skillet or heavy pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C) for frying.

III. Fry the Crullers

  1. Using a piping bag fitted with a large star tip, pipe the dough into 4-inch circles directly into the hot oil.
  2. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

IV. Make the Glaze

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, powdered sugar, dark rum, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth.

V. Glaze the Crullers

  1. Dip the warm crullers into the glaze, ensuring they’re well coated. Allow any excess glaze to drip off.

VI. Serve

  1. Enjoy the crullers warm or at room temperature. Perfect with a cup of coffee or tea!
