  • 1 package (2 sheets) puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 cup Nutella or chocolate hazelnut spread
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
  • Candy eyes (for decoration)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Puff Pastry:
    • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    • Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into rectangles, approximately 4×6 inches, to create the base for the hand pies.
  • Fill with Nutella:
    • Place about 1-2 tablespoons of Nutella in the center of half of the pastry rectangles, spreading it slightly but leaving a 1/4-inch border around the edges.
  • Create the Mummy Strips:
    • Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut thin strips from the remaining puff pastry rectangles. These will be used to create the mummy “bandages.”
  • Assemble the Mummies:
    • Place the puff pastry strips over the Nutella-filled rectangles in a criss-cross pattern to resemble mummy bandages. Be sure to leave a small space at the top to place the candy eyes later.
    • Press the edges of the hand pies together to seal them.
  • Egg Wash:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk to create the egg wash. Lightly brush the top of each hand pie with the egg wash to help them turn golden brown while baking.
  • Bake:
    • Bake the hand pies in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and flaky.
  • Decorate:
    • Once the hand pies are out of the oven and slightly cooled, gently press candy eyes into the exposed Nutella to complete the mummy look.
  • Serve:
    • Allow the hand pies to cool completely before serving. Enjoy your spooky Nutella-filled treats!
