Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1 package (10 oz) mini marshmallows
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (optional)
- Decorations:
- Candy eyes
- Colored frosting or icing
- Mini chocolate chips (for mouths or nostrils)
- Gummy worms or candy corn (for additional features)
- Sprinkles or edible glitter (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan:
- Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- Melt the Marshmallows:
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the mini marshmallows and stir continuously until completely melted and smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Add Food Coloring (Optional):
- If you want to add color to your Rice Krispie treats, divide the melted marshmallow mixture into separate bowls and add a few drops of food coloring to each. Stir well to distribute the color.
- Combine with Cereal:
- Add the Rice Krispies cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture and stir until the cereal is evenly coated.
- Press into Pan:
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Use a spatula or your hands (lightly buttered) to press the mixture evenly into the pan.
- Cool and Cut:
- Allow the treats to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, cut into rectangles or squares.
- Decorate:
- Turn each Rice Krispie treat into a monster by decorating with candy eyes, colored frosting, mini chocolate chips, gummy worms, and other fun toppings. Use frosting or melted chocolate as “glue” to attach decorations.
- Serve:
- Arrange your monster treats on a platter and enjoy!
